Description
This is old gold. Prised out of the ground at Australia’s first gold mine, the Victoria Gold Mine at Castambul, 18 kilometres out of Adelaide, this is the oldest known gold specimen to be mined in Australia. Uncovered five years before the gold rushes gripped eastern Australia, this is one chunk of precious metal with an important place in Australia’s social, economic, and scientific history.
