Description
There are opals, and then there’s the Virgin Rainbow. A 7cm sliver of opalised belemnite unearthed at Brown’s Folly field in Coober Pedy, this priceless piece is the finest cut of opal ever mined in Australia. Purchased in 2013 with the assistance of the Australian Government’s National Cultural Heritage Account, the Virgin Rainbow and its 72 carats of fossilised glory make it one of the most prized treasures in the Museum’s collection.
