Although the Adopt an Object program is currently paused, your support remains as important as ever. A general donation helps us care for our collections, advance research and inspire future generations.
Please note: The Adopt an Object program is temporarily paused.
The South Australian Museum Foundation would like to sincerely thank everyone who has participated in and supported this important initiative over the years. Every adoption has made a meaningful contribution to the ongoing care, conservation and interpretation of the South Australian Museum's collections.
We would particularly like to acknowledge Serena Gall, who became the final participant in the program before its temporary pause by adopting our Opalised Plesiosaur Skeleton. Serena's generous support will help care for remarkable collection items such as this specimen and is greatly appreciated.
While the program is paused for now, we hope to be able to offer the Adopt an Object program again in the near future. Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of the South Australian Museum.
Plesiosaur Opalised Skeleton
Millions of years ago, this 10-metre-long reptile lorded over the inland sea that once covered present-day South Australia.
Today these fragments of the Addyman Plesiosaur's opalised skeleton are the literal jewel of our fossils gallery, discovered in an Andamooka opal mine in 1968 and reconstructed in tribute to it's former glory.
