The Museum is home to over 5 million incredible objects that we hold in trust. These objects and their stories allow us to create new knowledge and are fundamental to understanding and celebrating our natural history and culture from deepest time and into the future.

We hold the very best examples of fossils from when complex life began on Earth 550 million years ago - a global phenomenon first identified in South Australia. We are custodians of the largest, most comprehensive Australian Aboriginal cultural material collection globally and have the best museum collection of opals in the world. And that is just the beginning.
